Claiming ABC News was blatantly partisan in favor of Vice President Kamala Harris going into the presidential debate, a Republican senator is demanding the network turn over any communications it exchanged with Harris’ campaign before she took the stage with former President Donald Trump.“On debate night, it became abundantly clear that ABC News and its respective moderators had a biased agenda,” Sen. Roger Marshall, R-Kansas, wrote in a letter to ABC News President Almin Karamehmedovic and Harris’ campaign manager, Julie Chávez Rodriguez.“Over 67 million Americans watched as a policy exchange between two presidential candidates quickly turned into a three-on-one debate against the Republican nominee,” Marshall added in the letter first reported by NewsNation.Trump and allies have roundly complained that ABC News fact-checked the former president several times during the live broadcast while letting Harris go unchallenged. Some Trump supporters have gone further, alleging ABC News tipped Harris off to questions and treated her with kid gloves in the matchup.ABC News did not immediately respond to a request for comment on the letter. Marshall’s request for documents carries no force of law and so far does not have the support of fellow Republicans.

An Israeli strike on a residential building in northern Gaza killed dozens of people early Tuesday, the territory’s emergency service said, in the latest attack to cause mass casualties in the area since Israel renewed its offensive against Hamas in the north.The Palestinian Civil Defense, the emergency service, said at least 55 people were killed in the strike in the town of Beit Lahia. Walt Disney World reporting a profit decline at theme parks signals a softening US economy.Disney forecast more challenges for the theme parks business. The company said it expects operating income in the division to fall by mid-single-digit percentage points in the fiscal fourth quarter, because of continued softening of demand at its U.S. theme parks, competition for tourist dollars at Disneyland Paris from the Summer Olympics, currently being held in the French capital, and softening of demand in China.This year, it became clear that the parks business was hitting some turbulence when Disney unexpectedly reported that operating income in the segment would likely be flat for the June quarter. The company said it was seeing “some normalization of post-Covid demand.”Disney rival Comcast, which owns and operates the Universal Studios chain of parks, reported weak results in late July, mostly because of lower attendance at Universal’s domestic parks. The company said it expects lower attendance to continue into next year. “Those Comcast numbers were scary,” said Doug Creutz, an analyst with TD Cowen. “Obviously, there’s been a slowdown in demand. Going to the parks is an expensive trip, so you’ve got to feel at least somewhat comfortable with your economic situation.”
